Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that much of the US economic influence will "disappear" if countries around the world give up the dollar as the main currency for international trade.

"The power of America rests on the dollar; much of America’s economic power will disappear if countries exclude the dollar from their economic systems," said Zarif, quoted by The Guardian.

Iranian Foreign Minister warned the United States that they "could not count on security" after the start of what he called the economic war against Tehran.

Zarif said that Iran will not start a war, but "he who starts a war with us will not be the one who ends it."

“President Trump himself announced that the US began an economic war against Iran. The only solution to reduce tensions in this region is to stop this economic war,” Zarif said.

In August, after leaving the international nuclear deal with Iran, Washington imposed sanctions on the Iranian automobile sector, trading in gold and other key metals.
