Decisions on the route and participants could emerge in the coming months, Reuters reported, citing the countries' representatives.

"The Turkey-Israel gas pipeline is being discussed behind the scenes as one of Europe's alternatives to Russian energy supplies, but it would require complex maneuvering to reach any deal," government and industry representatives from both countries told the agency.

The idea, first floated several years ago, is to build an underwater pipeline from Turkey to Israel's largest offshore natural gas field, Leviathan. The gas would flow to Turkey and on to southern European neighbors seeking to diversify imports from Russia.
