Italian watchdog: We will unblock ChatGPT at the end of April

According to Pasquale Stanzione, the chairman of the Personal Data Protection Authority, the Italian regulator may allow the popular artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT to operate if certain requirements are met by April 30.

A "temporary restriction on the processing of Italian user data" were be imposed against the American developer OpenAI, whose co-founder is Elon Musk, as a result of violations in the gathering of users' personal information that caused ChatGPT's operation to be banned earlier.

The watchdog is ready to unlock the chatbot's operations on April 30 provided OpenAI is willing to "report within 20 days on the measures taken" to remedy the situation with personal data, Stanzione stated in an interview with Milan's Corriere della Sera newspaper.

According to him, the business would need to outline a procedure for confirming the user age data submission and notify clients that their data will be used to train the algorithm.
