The sum allotted was €3.27 billion, according to il Sole24 ore.

The publication notes that the initiatives include extending elimination of maintenance fees and lowering the rate of VAT on gas bills. The package of measures, according to the Council of Ministers, also aims to "give liquidity to enterprises that carry natural gas to storage facilities."

Mariastella Gelmini, the minister for regional affairs, stated on Wednesday that the government has set aside €30 billion to combat the growing cost of gas and electricity.

The government will continue the discount on vehicle fuel by eliminating a portion of the excise tax after July 8th, according to Family Affairs Minister Elena Bonetti.
