According to the Kyodo news agency, the entire government of Japan has resigned after Prime Minister Fumio Kishida accepted the resignation petitions of his ministers.

In order to establish a government, the prime minister will then consult with Natsuo Yamaguchi, leader of the ruling coalition partner Komeito Party. The new government will then be created and approved by Japan's Emperor Naruhito in a formal ceremony.

13 of the 19 ministers will be replaced in the new government, 11 of whom will have ministerial posts for the first time. Five women will serve in the incoming administration, matching the maximum amount in the second Shinzo Abe administration.
