The most recent import tariffs being considered by US President Donald Trump are expected to have a very small effect on inflation in the European Union, according to European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde, who spoke to RTL radio.

She stated that in the near term, the impact will be quite limited. "Since we are currently managing inflation at 1.9%, the effect will be minimal," she explained. "The uncertainty caused by these frequent changes is actually more impactful."

Lagarde also pointed out that larger exporting nations, such as Germany, will face greater challenges compared to countries like France.

Last weekend, Trump announced plans to introduce a 10% import tariff on eight European countries beginning in February. These countries support Denmark and Greenland and are against Greenland joining the US. From June 1, the tariffs will rise to 25% and will stay in place until an agreement is reached regarding Washington's potential purchase of Greenland, according to the US President.
