"We need to save energy and invest in low-carbon energy to guarantee France's energy independence... We intend, for the first time in decades, to resume building nuclear reactors in our country and continue developing renewable energy sources," Macron said in an address to the nation.

Earlier, the media reported that ten EU countries backed the inclusion of nuclear power in the European Commission's list of industries that help reduce environmental damage. The authors of the article consider nuclear energy as a safe energy resource and stress that so far there is no scientific evidence that it contributes to global warming to a greater extent than other types of energy included in the taxonomy.

Furthermore, according to the authors, it is an affordable and stable energy source which, unlike gas, protects European consumers from price fluctuations and also significantly reduces the dependence of European electricity production on other countries.

According to the article, nuclear power already provides almost half of Europe's carbon-free electricity production.
