"The manner in which we develop, implement, and utilize technology is evolving more rapidly than it has during my entire career," stated Microsoft Chief People Officer and 27-year company veteran Amy Coleman in a note to staff.

Xbox plans to cut 1,600 positions starting as soon as Monday, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma stated in an email to staff. An extra 1,600 workers will be dismissed by the conclusion of fiscal year 2027 (which ends in March), in addition to the previously disclosed 4,800 immediate layoffs across the company.

"A year-long restructuring presents extra difficulties, I recognize. Regrettably, it's unfeasible to implement all the required changes immediately," Sharma stated. "We expect to see growth again in 2027."

It was also revealed that Xbox would transfer Ninja Theory (creator of Hellblade) and Undead Labs (creator of State of Decay) to unidentified purchasers. The two studios will keep collaborating with Xbox on their ongoing projects, Senua and State of Decay 3.
