Microsoft to pay a fine for multiple violations of U.S. sanctions

Microsoft will pay a three million dollar fine for 1,300 violations of sanctions.

According to a document from the U.S. Treasury Department, Microsoft will pay nearly $3 million to resolve more than 1.3 thousand violations of American sanctions against Cuba, Iran, Syria, and Russia.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Treasury Department stated in the document that Microsoft had "agreed to pay $2 million, $980,000 to settle its potential administrative liability for 1,339 apparent violations of Cuban asset control regulations, Iranian transaction and sanctions regulations, Syrian sanctions regulations, and Ukraine/Russia-related sanctions."

The violations relate to software or service exports from the United States to these countries.
