Musk also expressed his opposition to severing ties between the American and Chinese economies to the foreign minister during the meeting.

"The interests of the United States and China are as intertwined as Siamese twins and inseparable from each other," he said in the statement.

The Chinese foreign minister told Musk that China is determined to improve the business environment for investors, including Tesla Inc, and used an intricate metaphor to describe the relationship between China and the United States. "At times you need to step on the brakes, avoid dangerous driving and use the gas pedal skillfully," the minister was quoted as saying.
