NextEra Energy and Dominion Energy Inc., two American energy firms, revealed a merger in a transaction worth around $67 billion.

A press release from NextEra states that the merger of both companies will establish a massive power entity and a significant energy infrastructure platform for the North American market.

According to the agreement, Dominion shareholders will obtain 0.8138 NextEra shares per share, resulting in 25.5% ownership of the merged entity, while NextEra shareholders will hold 74.5%.

NextEra's market capitalization is around $200 billion, whereas Dominion's market capitalization is $50 billion.

The merged entity will function as NextEra Energy and will be traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

NextEra produces, transmits, and markets electricity in Florida and additionally engages in renewable energy activities. Dominion primarily functions in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The merger will need the consent of various federal and state regulatory bodies.
