"Switzerland should be able to forbid foreign companies from providing digital components," reads the bill. The National Council approved the Socialist Party's proposal out of concern for the influence of authoritarian nations like China. The Swiss Senate should concur with the decision to enact the prohibition.

The plan, according to the press office, is specifically directed against Chinese Huawei and China.

For the corporation to continue operating vital infrastructure, the Swiss government must be assured of its independence from the Chinese government.
