He came to this decision following discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Chief of Staff of the Pakistani Army Asim Munir. They requested that Trump avoid sending harmful military forces to Iran.

The American leader stated that he agreed to a two-week ceasefire, but only if Tehran completely, right away, and securely reopens the Strait of Hormuz.

According to him, the United States has already gone beyond its goals in the region. President Trump mentioned that Washington has made considerable strides in working toward a lasting peace with Iran and achieving a broader resolution in the Middle East.

The United States has received a ten-point proposal from Iran that could potentially act as a foundation for further discussions. Trump mentioned that the parties have come to an agreement on nearly all the issues that were previously disputed. According to him, a two-week ceasefire would allow the war to finally come to an end and the agreement to be officially finalized.
