Toyota's net profit up 27% year on year

Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor Corp.'s net profit for fiscal 2021-2022 (ended March 31) rose 27% to 2.85 trillion yen ($21.8 billion), according to its financial statements.

Diluted earnings per share reached 205.23 yen ($1.5) against 158.93 yen ($1.2) last fiscal year. Operating profit rose 36.3% to 2.996 trillion yen ($22.96 billion). Toyota's revenue rose 15.3% to 31.379 trillion yen ($240.45 billion). For the year, the company sold 8.23 million vehicles, up 7.6% from a year earlier.

Toyota's fourth-quarter net profit fell 31% to 533.8 billion yen ($4 billion). Revenue rose 5.5% to 8.112 trillion yen ($62.16 billion) and operating profit fell 32.8% to 463.8 billion yen ($3.55 billion).

Toyota expects revenue of 31.4 trillion yen ($240.6 billion) for fiscal 2022-2023. Operating profit is forecast to be 2.996 trillion yen ($2.9 billion). Net profit is expected to be 2.85 trillion yen ($21.8 billion).

In addition, the company said it will conduct a 200 billion yen ($1.5 billion) share buyback from 17 June to 30 September.
