Toyota to use recycled materials in battery production in the US

The North American division of Toyota, a Japanese automaker, and Redwood Materials Inc., a US-based company, have expanded their 2022 agreement to recycle batteries from Toyota's fully powered and hybrid vehicles.

The terms of the new agreement were not made public. It is known that Redwood will provide copper foil for anodes and recycled cathode-active materials to Toyota so that the company may produce fresh batteries at its facility in North Carolina.

Toyota intends to open the facility around 2025. An estimated $14 billion will be invested in the project.

By 2035, the Japanese business wants all of its global operations and its cars to be carbon neutral.
