The number of refugees who have left the territory of Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict on February 24 has exceeded 4 million people, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi said on Twitter.

This is almost a tenth of the country's population: according to the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, as of January 1, 2022, it was 41.17 million people.

As of March 29, 4.2 million people had left the country, according to data on the website of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. The vast majority of them moved to Poland - 2.3 million people. It is followed by bordering Romania (0.61 million people), Moldova (0.39 million), Hungary (0.36 million) and Russia (0.35 million).

The total number of Ukrainians who left their homes after February 24, exceeded 10 million, Grandi said earlier on Twitter. He specified that we are talking about refugees abroad and those who moved to other regions of Ukraine.

Bloomberg notes that EU member states, most of which are part of the visa-free Schengen zone, have eased travel restrictions for Ukrainians, making it easier for refugees to move. Reuters reported that the U.S. has expressed its readiness to accept up to 100,000 refugees from Ukraine.
