UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called on the United States and Iran to show restraint and avoid an intensification of the conflict.

“I want to emphasize: we require utmost caution and diplomatic resolutions. If the current saber-rattling results in a significant escalation, the situation in the area might go out of control,” he posted on the social media platform X.

Guterres highlighted that “the rights and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait must be completely restored, in line with international law.”

This declaration arrives alongside media reports indicating that Israel and the US could be getting ready for a new series of attacks on Iran.

The Wall Street Journal reported that on October 25, the US Navy was transferring ammunition to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington in anticipation of possibly resuming attacks on Iran. CNN stated that the US military is not prepared for such an action and needs additional time for preparations. US intelligence agencies think that neither Iran nor the Houthis are expected to launch attacks in the ongoing stage of the Middle East conflict.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that Israel plans to avoid renewing attacks on Iran at least until after the parliamentary elections on October 27. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had earlier indicated that Iran could try to attack Israel to interfere with the elections.
