04/06/2022

While Monet, Cézanne and Renoir are among the most expensive artists in the market, the Artprice 2021 report also provides a glimpse of the next generation.

The new French rising star is a woman barely 40 years old: in 2021, Claire Tabouret totaled $5.8 M with 20 works sold at auction. Robert Combas is the most successful French contemporary artist in the international market, with $7 M for 194 lots sold. Invader has performed equally well: $100 invested in a work by the street artist in 2005 is worth an average of $3,600 today: an increase of 3500%. Meanwhile, Pierre Soulages ' record is still a hot topic. During his lifetime, the painter of ultra-black (outrenoir) has achieved a bid worthy of Monet with Christie's New York in November 2021: $20.4 M for Peinture, 4 août 1961 (Painting, August 4, 1961).
