The official stated that the G7 faces significant challenges in forming a unified strategy to tackle the situation in Iran. Few anticipate a joint statement, which is uncertain in the time of US President Donald Trump, he noted.

As per the official, European G7 nations do not share Trump's hopeful view that maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz will resume by the week's end. They also aim to grasp the specifics of what the US and Iran have agreed upon before European nations can pledge to demine the Strait of Hormuz and monitor the waters.

A senior official, whose name was not revealed, mentioned that a considerable rise in cargo movement through the Strait of Hormuz might require two weeks. Bringing tensions back to the levels witnessed prior to the conflict on February 28, 2026, could require even more time.

He mentioned that, per the US-Iran memorandum, Tehran will not impose tolls for transit through the strait for a period of 60 days. Washington anticipates that this clause will be part of the final deal. Nevertheless, Bloomberg notes that it remains uncertain when the specifics of the memorandum will be disclosed.
