“Today, Bulgaria becomes the 21st member of the eurozone. This represents the conclusion of a comprehensive accession process for Bulgaria, featuring detailed analysis and diligent preparation. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Bulgaria and its people on this remarkable accomplishment,” stated Stephanie Lose, Minister of Economy for the Danish Presidency of the EU Council.
Brussels stated that the approval of these documents “finalizes the procedure that enables Bulgaria to join as the 21st member of the eurozone and take advantage of the single EU currency - the euro - starting next year.”
One of the three legal regulations establishes the exchange rate of the euro to the Bulgarian lev at 1.95583 lev for 1 euro. According to the EU Council communiqué, this aligns with the present central exchange rate of the lev in the Exchange Rate Mechanism II.
