The public sector will serve as the main market catalyst until the end of next year. Its investment in quantum computing is expected to increase from $219 million this year to $245 million by 2027.

Analysts observe that demand will be propelled by countries' strong motivation to achieve a technological advantage. By 2028, public sector spending will rise to $280 million; however, it will lose the leading position to the banking, financial services, and insurance sector, projected to expend $289 million and continue as the market leader until 2030. Gartner notes that the financial industry will employ quantum computing for purposes like portfolio optimization, risk assessment, and fraud identification.

Concurrently, the company forecasts that over 50% of quantum startups will leave the market by 2030 because of a "shortage of sustainable commercial income."

"Quantum technologies are beginning to demonstrate tangible business value, and despite potential market consolidation, top investment officers are making strategic initial investments in 2026," the press release indicates.

"Additionally, numerous organizations acknowledge the revolutionary possibilities of quantum computing and are enhancing their preparedness and skills to prevent lagging behind," says Gaurav Gupta, Vice President of Analytics and Research Lead for Emerging Technology Trends at Gartner, emphasizes that investment directors and IT leaders should regard the quantum approach as a long-term endeavor focused on achieving a competitive edge over their nearest competitors.

He believes that despite ongoing challenges in the quantum market, advancements are happening more swiftly than expected.
