Japan's GDP falls by 3.6% year-on-year in Q3

Japan's GDP in the third quarter of 2021, according to the final estimate, fell by 3.6% year-on-year (if GDP had been falling at the same rate for four consecutive quarters), government figures show.

Analysts polled by DailyFx had expected a 3.1% decline.

By the previous quarter, Japan's GDP had fallen 0.9%. Analysts had forecast a decline of 0.8%.

Compared to the third quarter of 2020 the figure fell by 4.1%.

Personal consumption, which accounts for up to 60% of Japan's GDP, fell by 1.3%.

Public investment decreased by 2% in quarterly terms in the reporting period and private investment by 2.3%. Exports decreased by 0.9% in quarterly terms and imports by 1%.
