Smartphones supplies hit record high in China, 5G phones on the rise

Mobile phone shipments in China rose 65.9 per cent year-on-year to 36.09 million units last month, the Chinese Academy of Information and Communication Technology (CAICT) said, quoted by Xinhua news agency.

Mobile phone supplies in China exceeded 97.97 million units in the first three months of this year, up 100.1 percent year-on-year, according to CAICT, which is a research institute under China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Chinese brands kept dominating mobile phone supplies in the last month, reaching 33.35 million units or 92.4% of total shipments. Smartphone shipments reached 35.27 million units last month, up 67.7% year-on-year.

A total of 41 new smartphones were launched in March, a 32.3% year-on-year increase, CAICT said.

Meanwhile, shipments of 5G-enabled phones continued to dominate the Chinese smartphone market in March, with total shipments hitting a record high of over 27 mln units, Xinhua news agency reported on 18 April.

The figure represented over 76 percent of China's overall mobile phone supplies in March, according to the CAICT.
