Microsoft stated that it did not agree with the charges made by the US tax authorities, who had assessed it with 28.9 billion dollars in unpaid taxes.

"In information filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Microsoft said that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) stated that Microsoft owes an additional $28.9 billion in taxes for the years 2004 through 2013, plus penalties and interest."

Microsoft promised to fight since it didn't agree with the IRS's calculations. "Since 2004, we have paid over $67 billion in taxes to the United States," the company noted.
