The Japanese government will provide $2 million in help for those impacted by the devastating fires on the Hawaiian island of Maui, said the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

According to a statement from the ministry, “Japan has decided to provide a total of about $2 million in aid through the American Red Cross and Japan Platform as a relief measure for victims of the natural disaster.” This decision was made in response to the severe destruction caused by forest fires in Hawaii.

On August 9th, a forest fire broke out on the Hawaiian island of Maui. Strong winds caused the fire to move fast to the tourist destination of Lahaina, which resulted in its total destruction. According to the most recent figures, at least 4.5 thousand individuals were left without a place to live, and more than 100 people were killed.
